Physics - Year 9 - Forces Flashcards
What is the equation for work done?
Work done = Force x Displacement
W = F x S
What is gravity?
Gravity is a pull force that acts between all objects with mass.
What are 2 things that make the force of gravity bigger?
- bigger mass
- the closer together the objects are
What is the weight equation?
Weight = mass x GFS W = m x g
What is the equation for Hooke’s law?
Force = spring constant x extension F = k e
What is the equation for Newton’s 2nd law?
Force = mass x acceleration f = ma
How do you calculate the mean speed?
mean speed = distance ÷ time
How do you calculate the acceleration of an object?
acceleration = change in velocity ÷ time
How would you calculate resultant force?
The smaller force subtracted from the larger force
What is the equation for finding the elastic potential energy?
EPE = 1/2 k e²
What does it mean when an force is said to do ‘work’?
The force causes an object to be displaced over a distance.
What is the equation for finding the GPE store?
GPE = mgh
What happens when work is done against gravity?
The GPE store increases.
What happens when work is done against gravity?
The GPE store increases.
