Q

Name the 3 types of tissue found in the stomach and their uses.

A
  • muscular tissue: to churn the food and digestive juices of the stomach together.
  • glandular tissue: produces the digestive enzymes like pepsin that break down food, HCl and mucus.
  • epithelial tissue: covers the inside and outside of the organ and contains blood vessels.

Q

What is the function of the liver?

A

Produces alkaline bile that emulsifies fat so it can be digested and neutralises HCl in the stomach.

Q

What is the function of the stomach?

A

The muscular walls churn food, breaking it down, produces pepsin (protease enzyme) and HCl, which gives the right pH for pepsin to work.

Q

What is the function of the small intestine?

A

Produces protease, amylase and lipase to fully digest food, also is where the soluble food molecules are absorbed out of the digestive system into the blood.
