Physics unit 5 Flashcards
Revision
what is Boyle’s law?
increase the pressure, the volume will fall.
increase the pressure and the volume will rise.
what is a viscous fluid?
like honey, it doesn’t flow readily.
what is chemical energy?
required to bond atoms together, when the bond break energy its absorbed, new bonds are made and energy is released.
what is electromagnetic energy?
light is a form, can be carried by x-rays, radio waves and laser light.
what is nuclear energy?
nucleus splits, the nuclear energy is released in form of heat and light.
what is mechanical energy?
when work is done to a object, e.g kicking a football.
hooke’s law
what does it mean when a material is demonstrating elastic behaviour?
when a material remains to its original shape when forces have been removed.
hooke’s law?
what does it mean when a material is demonstrating plastic behaviour?
if the forces have been removed and the deformation remains.
what does ductile mean?
under stress metals can be put in a new shape permanently.
what does malleable mean?
metals can be formed by a process such as hitting with a hammer, stamping or rolling.
what are the 4 quantities of thermodynamics?
- temperature
- internal energy
- entropy
- heat
what happens in the adiabatic process?
no heat is transferred.
what happens in the isothermal process?
constant pressure.
what happens int he isobaric process?
constant pressure.
what happens in the isochoric process?
constant volume.
