Physics--> second test Flashcards
Heat Transfer
When heat is transferred from one thing to another.
Conduction
When heat is transferred between two objects that come in contact with eachother.
Convention
When heat is transferred by heat flowing through liquid and gases
Radiation
Heat that travels through waves.
Thermal Energy
Comes from anything giving off heat
Heat
Thermal energy transferred from a hotter object to a colder object.
Measured in: JOULES (J)
Temperature + what is it measured in?
The measure of the average amount of kinetic energy in the particles.
Measured in: CELSIUS (C°)
Differences between heat and temperauture
Heat is the energy, temperature is the energy from the particles.
Conductor
Any material that allows thermal energy to flow through
Insulator
Does not allow thermal energy to flow through the material. Eg. Cloth, wooden, air, plastic
Solar energy
The energy from the sun
Solar Power
Electricity generated from sunlight
Solar panels
Used to produce electricity
Solar cells
Convert the light from the sun into electricity, found on solar panels
Energy efficiency
How much of the output energy is useful energy
