Physics S4 Flashcards
What is a scalar?
A scalar is a physical quantity such as mass or energy that has a magnitude (size).
What is a vector?
A vector is a quantity that has a magnitude and direction.
What happens when 2 vectors are perpendicular?
When 2 vectors are perpendicular you must use Pythagorus theorem.
What does mass mean?
Mass is the amount of matter that an object has.
It is measured in kilograms.
Define weight.
Weight is a force that an object feels due to gravity.
It is measured in Newtons.
What does a diode do?
A diode only allows the current to pass through if it is travelling in a certain direction.
What does a fixed resistor do?
A fixed resistor slows the current down at a steady rate, a variable resistor can be changed.
Name the five different energy types?
The five different energy stores are:
1) . Chemical energy stores
2) . Kinetic energy.
3) . Gravitational potential energy.
4) . Elastic potential energy.
What does efficiency mean?
Efficiency means that when you get the most work done you are using less energy.
What does power mean?
Power is energy supplied into another.
