Physics revision S3 2017 Flashcards
Explain solids, liquids and gases?
In a solid the particles close together vibrating (energy) and have strong bonds.
In a liquid the particles can flow easily. They can vibrate quickly and take the shape of a container.
In gases the particles are spread apart. Flow easily. Have vibrational energy.
What is density?
Density is the mass divided by volume.
What happens when a force is applied to a spring?
When a force is applied to a spring it will change shape and extend.
What is the equation of force?
Equation of force= spring constant x extension.
What is speed?
Speed is a scalar quantity.
What is the EM spectrum?
The electromagnetic spectrum is a continuous range of wavelengths. The types of that occur in different parts of the spectrum have different uses and dangers, which depend their wavelength and frequency.
What is the order of the EM spectrum?
The order of the EM spectrum is:
Radio waves
Microwaves
Infrared radiation
Visible light
Ultra violet light
X rays
Gamma Rays
What is the speed of sound in air?
The speed is sound in air is around 340m/s
What is the equation for speed?
Speed= distance (in meters) ÷ time (in seconds).
What is velocity?
Velocity= speed in a given direction.
