Physics Revision Flashcards
What is Scalar?
A physical quantity that can be fully describe with a magnitude only.
What is Vector?
A physical quantity that can be fully described with a magnitude and direction.
What is an example of scalar?
(Name two examples)
Distance ,voltage ,energy ,time ,temperature ,speed ,mass ,frequency or power
What is an example of vector?
(Name two examples)
Displacement, Momentum, Acceleration, Force or Velocity
What is the equation for speed?
Speed (m/s) = Distance (m) / Time (s)
A man walks 20m in 10s. What is his average speed?
2 m/s
A dog runs 5 km in 10 seconds. What was his speed?
500 m/s
How do you calculate Distance?
Distance (m) = Speed (m/s) X Time (s)
How do you calculate Time
Time (s) = Distance (m) / Speed (m/s)
A sheep runs at 12 m/s. How far will it move in 17 seconds ?
204 m
Jerry the dinosaur runs at 40 m/s for 100m. How long does it take to cover this distance?
2.5 seconds
What is the equation for Acceleration?
Acceleration (m/s2) = Change in Velocity (m/s) / Time (s)
Change in Velocity (m/s) = Final Velocity - Initial Velocity
A cat’s speed increases from 9 m/s to 21 m/s in a time of 4 seconds. What is the cat’s acceleration?
3m/s2
On a distance/time graph. What is a flat line called?
A stationary line.
How do you calculate distance from a velocity time graph ?
You do velocity x speed
How do you calculate the stopping distance of a car?
Stopping distance = Thinking distance + Braking distance
If the speed of your car is going 40 mph and your braking distance has to be 19 and your stopping distance 38 what is your thinking distance?
19
What is Energy?
Something that is needed to make things happen and change
What can energy be measured in ?
Joules (j)
What are the 9 forms of energy ?
Elastic Potential, Thermal, Chemical, Light, Gravitational Potential, Kinetic, Electric, Sound and Nuclear
Where is chemical energy stored?
In chemical reactions like food, fuels and chemicals.
Where is kinetic energy stored?
In an object that is moving
Where is gravitational potential energy stored?
In an object because of its position
Where is Elastic potential energy stored?
In an object when you stretch or squash it
