Biology Y9 Revision Flashcards
What are the 2 types of microscopes?
Light and Electron Microscopes
What does magnification mean?
The enlargement of an image
How have microscopes been improved since it was created?
Resolution and ability to see smaller things
What are the 2 types of cells ?
Prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells
What are eukaryotic cells?
Any organism that contains a nucleus and membrane bound organelles.
What are prokaryotic cells?
They are single celled organisms that are one cell that does it all.
What are some examples of a eukaryotic cell?
Plants, animals and food
What is an example of a prokaryotic cell?
Bacteria
What is the equation for Image size ?
Image Size = Actual Size X Magnification
The actual size of a cell is 10nm and its magnification is 450x. What is the image size ?
4500nm
How much to convert 10000pm into cm?
0.00000001
What are the 4 units for microscopic calculations?
Millimetres, Micrometers, Nanometers and Picometers
What are the 6 specialised animal cells?
Sperm, Egg, Red Blood, Muscle, Ciliated Epithelial and Neurone cell
What are the special features of a sperm cell?
Flagellum, Haploid Nucleus, Acrosome, Mitochondria and Streamlined Shape
What are the special features of an egg cell?
Large in diameter, Nutrients in cytoplasm, Haploid Nucleus and can change its cell membrane after fertilisation.
