Physics Quiz 2 Flashcards
Difference between Temperature and Heat
Heat describes the transfer of thermal energy between molecules within a system and is measured in Joules. Temperature describes the average kinetic energy of molecules within a material or system and is measured in Celsius
What is the first Thermal Dynamic Law
When heat flows to or from a system, the system gains or loses an amount of heat that is equal to the heat transferred. (Energy cannot be created or destroyed in an isolated system)
What is the second Thermal Dynamic Law
Heat never flows spontaneously from cold to hot. It ALWAYS flows from Hot to Cold if no work is done on it.
What is Third Thermal Dynamic Law
No system can reach absolute zero
Who was Archimedes
He discovered buoyancy, if buoyancy equals the weight of the object, it floats.
Who was Boyle
he discovered the relationship between pressure and volume. Said that P1V1=P2V2
Who was Pascal
discovered that pressure is constant. A change in pressure at any point in an enclosed fluid at rest will transmit equally to all points in fluid
Who was Bernoulli
He said that if the speed of the fluid increases that the internal pressure in the fluid decreases
Facts about Celsius
0 degrees freezes water, 100 degrees boils water
Facts about Fahrenheight
32 degrees freezes water, 212 boils water
Facts about Kelvin scale
No negative numbers, widest range of temperatures, 273 Kelvins to freeze water, 373 Kelvins to boil water. You do not use degrees.
