Physics chapters 2 and 3 Flashcards
The definition of position is:
The location of an object with respect to a fixed reference
Definition of Motion:
Change of location of an object over time. Force is initially needed to set a body in motion
What’s the equation for speed
Speed = Distance/Time
Standard Unit of speed is
Meters/seconds (m/s)
Average speed is
Total distance/total time
What is the definition of velocity
Speed with direction. it is displacement/time
Standard Unit of velocity is the same as…(what?)
speed– meters/second (m/s)
What are two different ways you can change velocity
you can change speed or direction
What is Newtons first law
LAW OF INERTIA- Every object continues in its state of rest or of uniform speed in a straight line unless a net force ACTS on it.
What is a force, do forces have direction?
A force is a push or a pull, yes they have a direction
What is net force?
The sum and difference of all the forces acting on a body
What are some common forces we already know?
Gravity, Friction, Tension
What is static equilibrium
When the net force of something is ZERO and the body does not move or accelerate
What is dynamic equilibrium
When an object moves at a constant velocity, meaning the acceleration of the object is zero.
What is Newtons second law
Net force CAUSES acceleration, which is in the same direction as the force. A bigger force will cause a bigger acceleration
