Physics Quiz #1 Flashcards
Incandescent light
These objects emit light because they are hot. Ex. Incandescent light bulbs.
Fluorescent light
When a gas is excited by an energy source and the gas emits light when the electricity runs through it. Ex. Neon lights.
Phosphorescent light
These objects emit light when excited and the light continues to be emitted after the source of light is removed. Ex. glow in the dark objects.
Chemiluminescent light
These objects emit light because of a chemical reaction. Ex. glow sticks.
Bioluminescent light
Living organisms that release light because of a chemical reaction. Ex. Fireflies.
Mechanical and electromagnetic waves
Light is energy that travels in the form of electromagnetic waves, and these are similar to mechanical waves because they both move energy from one point to another. But, different from mechanical waves, electromagnetic waves do not need a medium in which to travel (doesn’t need particles to be able to travel), and they’re invisible. Light waves can be reflected, refracted, diffracted, and travel in straight lines.
SALT
S (size) - is image smaller or larger than object.
A (attitude) - image upright or upside down
L (location) - image closer or further from mirror
T (type) - real or virtual (virtual forms dotted links and image forms behind mirror)
