Q

  • In the summer the power output from the hydroelectric generator is lower but the solar power output would be greater
  • so less variation in electricity supply

Basically the graph is talking about how much power output we get out of the generator in a year, we can see over the months of June/July this would be quite low so in a remote village using just the generator wouldnt be enough - so the question is asking why installing a solar power system as well would mean this village gets more reliable electricity

Q
A
  • Half life is the time taken for activity to halve
  • So if the sample of Fluorine-17 is 1/4 of its original activity it has been halved twice. 2 half lives. (A half of a half is a quarter)
  • From the table in the question it takes 64.37s for Fluorine-17 to halve so it will take another 64.37 to halve again.
  • So 64.37 x 2 = 128.74 s

Its halving the quickest, which means its emitting radiation very fast so its going to be the most dangerous

  • Something has Gravitation Potential Energy (GPE) when it is above the ground, the higher above the ground it is the more GPE it has (before gravity has acted on that thing)
  • A spring has Elastic Potential Energy when it is being stretched or compressed (before the spring has pulled back)
