Physics - Light Flashcards
What is a luminous object?
Something that emits its own light.
What are the three primary colours of light?
Red, green and blue
What are the three secondary colours of light?
Magenta, cyan and yellow
A yellow filter will let which primary colours of light through?
red and green
An black object absorbs which colours of light?
Black objects absorb all colours of light.
A cyan object viewed under magenta light will appear which colour?
Blue. Cyan objects will reflect green and blue light. Magenta light is made from red and blue.
The angle of incidence is always equal to what?
The angle of reflection
What happens when a ray of light enters an optically denser substance?
It bends towards the normal
What two things must you ensure when drawing light rays?
They are straight lines and they have an arrow to show direction.
Why does light refract?
Its speed changes
Which travels fastest: Water waves, sound waves or light waves?
Light waves
What type of reflection occurs at a plane mirror?
specular reflection.
What does diffuse reflection mean?
The incident ray is reflected at lots of different angles
What piece of equipment could you use to separate a ray of light into a spectrum of colours?
A prism
What type of objects will cast a shadow: transparent, translucent or opaque?
Translucent or opaque objects will both cast shadows. Although as translucent objects let some light through the shadow will not be as dark
