Physics Definition Flashcards
Frequency
Rate of repetition of a wave; measured in hertz with is cycles in per second
Wave
Disturbance that transfers Energy from one point to another without transferring matter
Wavelength
Distance from one place in a wave to the next similar place in the wave
Amplitude
Wave height from the rest position to the crest, or wave depth from the rest position to the through; The larger the amplitude, the more energy that is carried
Electromagnetic radiation
Energy that can travel through empty space in the form of waves
Electromagnetic spectrum
Entire range of wavelengths or frequencies of electromagnetic radiation extending from the shortest GammaRay’s to the longest Radio waves including light
Plane mirror
Mirror that has a flat reflective surface
Concave
Reflective surface that curves inward like a bowl
Convex
Reflecting surface that curves outward
Real image
Image formed by Rays that come from the location of the image
Virtual
Image formed by rays that do not come from the location of the image
Focal point
Point where light rays meet or appear to meet
Magnification
Measure of how much larger or smaller image is compared with the object itself
