What is a pulse?
A single disturbance that is propagated from one point to another in a medium
A medium
The substance
Define propagated
the process by which a disturbance travels through a medium
Transverse pulse
Is perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the pulse
Equilibrium position
The rest position of the medium when there is no disturbance
Amplitude
The maximum displacement of a particle from its equilibrium position
pulse length
width of the pulse
what is Superposition
This is the combining of pulses, to form a single pulse with a greater amplitude of smaller amplitude
The phenomenon that is observed during superposition
phenomenon of interference
Constructive interference
This is when the two pulses amplify each other to result in a single pulse with a greater amplitude
Destructive interference
This is when two pulses weaken/cancel each other and result in a single pulse with a smaller amplitude or no pulse
Transverse waves
A wave whose oscillations are perpendicular to the direction of the wave’s advance
Wave
Consists of a regular successive of disturbances or pulses that originate at one point in a medium propagated through the medium
Wavelength
distance between two successive points that are in phase (Meters)
Frequency
Number of cycles passing a fixed point (Hertz)
