Physics Flashcards
Distance
the length of the space between two points.
Speed
the rate at which someone or something moves or operates or is able to move or operate.
Time
the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.
Scalar
(of a quantity) having only magnitude, not direction.E.g distnace, speed, time.
Vector
a quantity having direction as well as magnitude, especially as determining the position of one point in space relative to another.
Displacement
the action of moving something from its place or position.
Magnet
A piece of metal that attracts other materials
Magnetic Material
Materials that are attracted to magnets e.g iron, cobalt, nickel
Poles
Magnetic force of Attractions is strongest at both ends of a magnet.North and South Pole.Like poles repel each other, unlike poles attract each other
Alloy
A mixture of two metals.Steel contains iron and cobalt
Magnetic field
A magnetic field is the space around a magnet that exerts a force on magnets and magnetic materials
Magnetic field lines
The directions of force in a magnetic field are represented by magnetic field lines
Distance-time graph
Graph drawn using time on x axis and distance on y axis. The slope gives the speed.
Current electricity
The rate of flow of charge per second
Static electricity
a stationary electric charge, typically produced by friction, which causes sparks or crackling or the attraction of dust or hair.
Charged particles
In physics, a charged particle is a particle with an electric charge. It may be an ion, such as a molecule or atom with a surplus or deficit of electrons relative to protons. It can also be an electron or a proton, or another elementary particle, which are all believed to have the same charge.
Conductors
a material or device that conducts or transmits heat or electricity, especially when regarded in terms of its capacity to do this.
