Physics Flashcards
Water vs air heat conduction
Water conducts heats 20x faster than air
How is sound affected by water?
Travels 4x faster in water
Sounds appear to come from above you
How does refraction affect magnification?
Objects appear 33% bigger underwater
Ratio of 4:3
What is visual reversal?
Objects appear to be further away due to particles in water (turbidity)
Daltons Law
Sum of all gases will equal 100%
As pressure increases, partial pressure increases
When do nitrogen levels become narcotic?
3 bar
When does oxygen become toxic?
- 4 bar
1. 6 contingency
What is saturation vs supersaturation?
Saturation: when the pressure of the gas in a liquid is the same pressure as outside
Supersaturation: when the outside pressure is reduced so the gas comes out of the liquid as bubbles
Charles Law
As temp increases the volume of a flexible container increases and the pressure inside will increase
What pressure change occurs with each 1 degree celsius?
0.6 bar
Boyles Law
As the pressure surrounding an object increases, the volume will decrease and the density will increase
Gauge pressure
Water pressure excluding atmospheric pressure
1 bar in fresh vs sea water
1 bar = 10m sea water
1 bar = 10.3m fresh water
Archimedes principle
An object partially or wholly immersed in fluid is buoyed yo by a force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object
Weight of 1 litre of sea/ fresh water
Sea = 1.03kg Fresh = 1kg
