Physics 5.4.3 Flashcards
Levers ___ the Size of a Force Acting on an Object, to make the Object Turn more easily.
Increase.
The Force Applied to a Lever must Act ___ from the Pivot than the Force has to Overcome.
Further.
How do you make a Lever work better? (2)
-Increase the Size of the Force Applied.
-Increase the Distance of the Force from the Pivot.
Gears, similar to Levers, ___ the Effect of a ___ Force using Momentum.
Multiply, Turning.
The ___ of one Gear fit into the ___ of another Gear.
Teeth, Teeth.
Gears ___ each other. Meaning one Axle or Shaft can be Used to Turn another Shaft.
Turn.
Where the Gears meet, the Teeth will then move in the ___ Direction.
Same.
One of the Gears will Turn___, and the other will Turn ___.
Clockwise, Anticlockwise.
Although the Force on 2 Gears will be the Same, the ___ will not be.
Moment.
What does the Moment of a Gear depend on?
The Gear’s Size. The Size of the Gear that Drives it.
If a Larger Gear is Driven be a Smaller Gear, what will happen?
The Large Gear will Rotate Slower than the Smaller Gear, but will have a Greater Moment.
If a Smaller Gear is Driven by a Larger Gear, what will happen? Why is this?
The Small Gear will Rotate Quicker than the Larger Gear, but will have a Smaller Moment.
This is because the Turning Force on the Larger Gear Wheel Acts Further from its Pivot than the Turning Force of the Smaller Gear Wheel Acting on its own Pivot.
