Physics 5.1.2 Flashcards
A Force is Defined as:
A Push or a Pull that Acts on an Object, due to the Interaction with another Object.
Define the Force ‘Weight’:
The Force of Gravity on a Mass.
Define the Force ‘Electrostatic Force’:
The Force between 2 Charged Objects.
Define the Force ‘Thrust’:
The Force Causing an Object to Move (eg the Force from a Rocket Engine).
Define the Force ‘Air Resistance / Drag’:
The Friction of the Air on a Moving Object.
Define the Force ‘Upthrust’:
The Force of a Fluid (eg Water) Pushing an Object Upwards (making it Float).
Define the Force ‘Compression’:
Forces that Act Inward on an Object, Squeezing it.
Define the Force ‘Tension’:
Force Transmitted through a Cable or String, when Pulled on by Forces Acting on its Opposite Ends.
Define the Force ‘Reaction Force’:
A Force due to Contact between 2 Objects.
The 2 types of Forces are: (2)
-Contact.
-Non-Contact.
Define the Force ‘Friction’:
A Force that Opposes Motion. Occurs when Objects Rub Against each other.
Examples of Contact Forces: (4)
-Friction.
-Air Resistance.
-Tension.
-Reaction Force.
What is a ‘Contact Force’?
A Force which Acts between Objects that are Physically Touching.
What is a ‘Non-Contact Force’?
A Force which Acts at a Distance, without any Contact between Bodies, due to the Action of a Field.
Examples of Non-Contact Forces: (3)
-Gravitational Force.
-Electrostatic Force.
-Magnetic Force.
