Physics 2 Flashcards
What is Charles’ Law?
V/T = k, or V1/T1 = V2/T2
What is Boyle’s Law?
P1V1= P2V2
How are eddy currents created?
There is a changing magnetic field in the transformer core which induces an emf. The core is a conductor, so current flows.
How can you make a transformer more efficient?
Laminate the core –> reduces eddy currents
Use a soft iron core –> easily magnetised/demagnetised to reduce hysteresis
High resistivity core –> reduces eddy currents
What is the Vrms?
The direct voltage value that produces the same heating effect/power loss as the alternating voltage
What is the definition of electric potential?
The work done per unit charge in bringing a point test charge from infinity to a defined point
