Q

How are eddy currents created?

A

There is a changing magnetic field in the transformer core which induces an emf. The core is a conductor, so current flows.

Q

How can you make a transformer more efficient?

A

Laminate the core –> reduces eddy currents
Use a soft iron core –> easily magnetised/demagnetised to reduce hysteresis
High resistivity core –> reduces eddy currents
