Physics Flashcards
What is displacement
A distance without a change in direction
What is a vector
Physical quantities with size(magnitude) and distance
What are scalars
Physical quantities with size but no direction
What is the force of gravity(N)
9.81(rounded to 10)
What is mass
The amount of matter within something
What is weight
How strong the gravityof the earth is pulling us towards the center of the earth
What is velocity
Speed in a given direction
What is speed
How fast something is going(no direction)
What is acceleration
How fast something can increase its velocity
What is power
The rate of change of power(how fast energy changes)
What is the difference between scalar and vector quantities
Scalars on have properties with size while vectors have both size and direction
What is Newton’s thrid law of motion
Every action has an equal oppostie reaction
What is friction
The force exerted by a surface against and object in motion
What is the resultant force
A singular force that represents the overall force when something is affected by multiple forces
What happens when the resultant force is 0
The object is either stationary or constantly in motion
What are balanced forces
When
What energy resources are renewable
Biofuels,geothermal,solar,tidal,wind
What energy resources are not renewable
Fossil fuels, nuclear power
How do biofuels produce electricity
Chemical energy stored in hpthings that were once alive can be transferred into thermal energy by burning them. This energy is then used to boil water into steam to transfer kinetic energy from a spinning trubine into electricity
How does nuclear power create electricity
Unstable atoms split into two
