Q

topic 1
what is a vector and a scalar and give examples?

A

Scalar is a quantity with only magnitude but no directions. e.g. are speed, direction, temperature
vector is a quantity with both magnitude and direction.
e.g. are velocity, acceleration, displacement, force

Q

topic 1
what is the differences between speed and velocity?

A

speed is a scalar quantity, it only tells us how fast you travelling not the direction.
velocity is a vector quantity and it tells us the speed in a particular direction

Q

topic 1
can a object change its velocity whilst travelling in constant speed?

A

yes, as velocity is both magnitude and direction so if the object is changing in direction whilst going in constant speed, its considered to be changing in velocity due to velocity being speed in a particular direction

Q

topic 1
how to calculate speed in irl?

A

light gates are very efficient in finding out the time the object travelled and it will have no human errors like the stop watch.
using a measuring tape can help us identify how far the object traveled.

Q

topic 1
distance time graph
gradient?
horizontal line?
vertical line?
curves?

A

the gradient in a distance time graphs tells us the average speed.
the horizontal line shows how they have stopped.
vertical line shows how they are going in a steady pace.
curves represent acceleration and deceleration.

Q

topic 1
velocity time graph?
gradient?
flat lines?
steeper the graph?
uphill lines?
down hill lines?
curve?
area?

A

gradient equals to acceleration because a=change in v over time
flat lines represent steady speed.
steeper the graph, the more its constantly accelerating or decelerating
uphill lines shows constant acceleration
downhill line shows constant deceleration.
curves shows changing acceleration
area shows distance.

Q

topic 1
what is newtons first law?

A

if the resultant force on a stationary object is zero, the it will stay stationary.
of the resultant force on a moving object is zero, then it will continue moving in the same direction and at the same velocity

Q

topic 1
what is centripetal force of attraction?

A

if an object is traveling in a circular orbit, the object is constantly changing acceleration. thus its accelerating. there is a resultant force acting on it and its know as centripetal force as it acts on the center of circle

17
Q

topic 1
a non zero resultant force always produce?

A

acceleration.

18
Q

topic 1
newtons second law?

A

the force and acceleration is directly proportional. acceleration is inversely proportional to mass.
f=m*a

19
Q

topic 1
what is inertia?

A

inertia is the tendency for motion to remain unchanged.
they can find inertia via f=m*a

20
Q

topic 1
newtons third law?

A

when two force interact, the force they exert on each other are equal and opposite.

21
Q

topic 1
if forces are always equal, how does anything move?

A

the forces are acting on different object.

22
Q

topic 1
what is not newtons third law?

A

two types of forces acting on one object. weight and normal contact force.

23
Q

topic 1
investigating motion practical.
pg 28

A

adding mass to the trolley increases the mass of the system whilst the force due to gravity acting on hanging hook stays the same. this means that mass is inversely proptional to acceleration of the system due to acceleration being slower due to increase in mass but fixed force.
adding mass to the hook changes the force. this increases accelerating force without changing the mass of the whole system thus force is directly proportional as it increase acceleration.

24
Q

what is mass?

A

the amount of matter in an object.

25
Q

weight

A

force acting on an object due to gravity.

26
Q

momentum

A

how much oomph an object has.
p=m*v
