What is the Principal Of Moments
When an object is in equilibrium, the sum of the clockwise moment is the same as the sum of the anticlockwise moments on the same pivot
What are the two factors which affect Stability?
1) Base Area (the wider the base area, the more stable the object is)
2) Position of Centre Of Gravity (the lower the position, the more stable the object is)
What is the formula to find Moments?
M = Fd where M is moments, F is the force applied and d is the horizontal distance.
What is Newton’s First Law
states that every object will continue its state of motion (at rest or uniform motion in a straight line) unless a resultant force acts on the object
What is Inertia?
the reluctance of an object to change its state of motion
Factors affecting Intertia include:
Mass. The higher the mass, the higher the inertia (i.e. more reluctant the object will move / harder to move the object)
What is Newton’s Second Law?
states that when a resultant force acts on an object of constant mass, the object will accelerate in the direction of the resultant force.
What is the formula to find resultant force?
Fnet = Mass * Acceleration
What is Newton’s Third Law?
states that when A exerts a forceAB onto B, B will exert an equal opposing forceBA
Explain Newton’s Third Law in more simpler terms.
for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
What is the formula to find pressure (general terms)
P = force / surface area
What is the formula to find pressure in WATER
P = hpg
h = height, p = density and g = gravitational field strength
What is the Pascal Principal?
states that if pressure is applied to an enclosed liquid, the pressure will be transmited uniformly to other parts of the liquid.
What is the formula for Work Done?
workdone = force * distance moved
