Physics Flashcards
What happens to pressure in a liquid as its depth increases?
The pressure increases as well
What is Thinking Distance?
The distance a vehicle travels in the time it takes for the driver to apply the brakes after realising they need to stop.
What is the relationship between greater mass of a moving object and its ability to stop quickly?
Greater mass means there is more kinetic energy for the brakes to transfer.
How might the shape of an object change if forces act away from each other in a straight line?
It may extend
How might the shape of an object change if forces act towards each other in a straight line?
It may compress
What is the formula for calculating weight?
W = mass x gravitational field strength
What is Terminal Velocity?
The constant speed of an object achieved by falling freely through a gas or liquid.
What is the formula for when an object is accelerating at a constant acceleration?
v² - u² = 2a(s or x)
What is the general formula for acceleration?
v - u / t
What is acceleration?
A change in velocity
What is velocity?
The speed of an object of over a select given time (usually 1s) in a specific direction.
What is the formula for Velocity?
change in displacement / change in time
What is the difference between distance and displacement?
Distance is a SCALAR quantity that refers to “HOW MUCH GROUND an object has covered” during its motion.
Displacement is a VECTOR quantity that refers to “HOW FAR OUT OF PLACE an object is”; it is the object’s overall change in position.
What does a Horizontal line show in a velocity/time graph?
It shows constant velocity over time (no acceleration).
How can I work out the acceleration of an object in a velocity time graph?
By working out the gradient of the line.
