Define health
Being in a good physical, mental and social condition as well as not suffering from any illnesses or injuries
Define fitness
Being in a good physical condition in order to meet the demands of everyday activities
Agility
The ability to change direction and body position rapidly
Balance
The ability to maintain a stable centre of gravity in order to avoid falling
Cardiovascular endurance
The ability of the heart and lungs to deliver the required oxygen to the working muscles in order to exercise for a prolonged period of time
Coordination
The ability to use two or more different parts of the body together, smoothly and efficiently
Flexibility
The ability to achieve a large range of movement at a joint
Muscular endurance
The ability to repeatedly contract a muscle without or with minimal fatigue
Power
Apply a force quickly and is the product of strength and speed
Reaction time
The ability to respond to a stimulus
Strength
The ability to overcome resistance. There are 4 types maximal strength, static strength, dynamic strength and explosive strength
Define speed
The ability to cover a distance or move a body part in a short amount of time
Define principles of training
The strategies that can be applied to a training programme in order to increase its effectiveness
Define specificity
Makes sure that the skills practised in training are important in the sport the athlete is training for
Define progressive overload
Makes sure that as an athletes body adapts to the demands, greater demands are placed on it
