Physical Skills Flashcards
What is balance?
Ability to maintain perfect equilibrium
What is flexibility?
Occurs in the muscles and joints
What is alignment?
Activation of the tracking, stacking and stabilisation of the core
What is control
The ability to start-stop, change direction, hold a shape, etc.
What is coordination?
Is the ability to work with the different parts of the body together
What is transference of weight?
Occurs when moving from left or right or from high to low level.
What is strength?
The physical capacity to elevate, perform complex movements and safely execute them. Can also provide speed and force in the movements
What is stamina?
Fitness. Physical exertion required to perform complex and tiring movement sequences.
How is balance demonstrated?
Have awareness of the muscular patterning, and think about activating specific muscles needed to control overall stability
How is flexibility demonstrated?
Lengthen specific muscles like hamstrings and opening of a joint such as a hip joint
How is alignment demonstrated?
Same as alignment is safe dance
How is control demonstrated?
Understanding how muscles should be activated. The ability to isolate a particular muscle.
How is coordination demonstrated?
Different patterning in upper and lower body
How is transference of weight demonstrated?
When a dancer shifts their weight from one body part to another. Centre of gravity is shifted, freeing a body part for use.
How is strength demonstrated?
Refer to muscles being activated
