Physical Pharmacy Flashcards
What are the types of binding forces?
Intramolecular forces
Intermolecular forces
What is the Intramolecular forces? And what its categorized?
forces between atoms of a molecule and its categorized :
1)Ionic bonding
2)Covalent bonding
3) Metallic bonding
What is ionic bonding?
formed between positively and negatively charged ions, there is a transfer of electron from one atom to another (between metals and non-metals, i.e. Silver chloride AgCl ).
Where is ionic bond formed?
formed between positively and negatively charged ions (between metals
and non-metals
What is Covalent bonding?
a chemical bond that involve sharing of electrons between atoms, it is weaker than ionic bond.
Covalent bonding involves ?
sharing of electrons between atoms
Which one is more stronger between 3 types of intramolecular forces?
The ionic bonding is more stronger than other types then covalent bonding and at the end Metallic bonding
What is the Metallic bonding?
is a type of chemical bonding between two or more metal atoms, which arises from the attraction between positively charged metal nuclei and their delocalized valence electrons.
Where was the metallic bonding formed?
Between two or more metal atoms which arises from the attraction between positively charged metal nuclei and their delocalized valence electrons
What are the Intermolecular Forces?
Are the electrostatic forces of attraction between molecules in a compound generally they are weaker than intramolecular forces.
Which one of these two more weaker than other inter or intramolecular forces ?
Intermolecular forces weaker than intramuscular forces
Why Intermolecular forces are important ?
because they affect the compound’s physical properties and characteristics like melting point, boiling point, vapo melting point, boiling point, vapor pressure e melting point, boiling point, vapor pressure viscosity and solubility
What are the types of Intermolecular Forces?
Van der Waals Forces
Ion-dipole forces
Hydrogen bond
Where was van der waals formed?
between polar molecules in which a given dipoles interact with one another (dipole-dipole interactions).
Where was Ion-dipole forces formed?
between ions and dipoles. They are typically found n ions and dipoles. They are typically found in solutions containing ions
What is hydrogen bond?
is a type of chemical bond that involves the electrostatic attraction between a hydrogen atom and an atom containing a lone pair of electrons
Where was hydrogen bond formed?
between a hydrogen atom and an atom containing a lone pair of electrons
Characteristics of Hydrogen Bond?
-A weak force of attraction between molecules, but Stronger than Van der waals bond
-Alters the physical properties of the molecules. For example, it increases the melting and boiling point of a substance, thereby making it less volatile
Gaseous state has shape but don’t has volume.T/F
False , no volume no shape
Liquid state retain volume, but not shape.T/F
True
Solid state retain volume and no shape. T/F
Fulse , its has shape
Gases can be expanded easily, therefore gases can fill containers and take their volume and shape. T/F
True
Gases have much higher densities than liquids and solids.T/F
False,lower densities
Why the gas is most compressible state of matter ?
Because there is a lot of free space in a gas.
