What does a physical map show us?
Shows where natural things like oceans, high and low areas of land, deserts, mountains, rivers and lakes.
How is the height of land measured?
In metres above sea level.
What is the highest point of a mountain called?
A peak.
How is a peak shown on a map?
A beacon symbol.
What is the highest mountain in Africa?
Mount Kilamanjiro - 5895 metres at the highest peak.
Name three tallest mountains in Africa:
Mount Kilamanjiro, Mount Kenya, Thaba Ntlenyana (highest in South Africa)
What is a desert?
A place that is sandy, dry and very hote during the day.
What is the biggest desert in the world?
The Sahara Desert
How do rivers flow?
From high land to low land.
Where do most rivers end?
In the sea.
What is the longest river on earth?
The Nile River. It is 6670 kms.
Name three other great rivers In Africa:
The Niger, Congo, Zemabezi River.
What are the three largest lakes in Africa?
Lake Victoria, Lake Tananyika and Lake Malawi.
What is a lake?
A large area of fresh water with land all around it.
What is waterfall?
Is a river or stream falling from a high place to a low place.
