Physical geography Flashcards
What is an ore
Ore is a mineral aggregate or rock that can be mined, out of economic interest to extract metals.
What are critical minerals
Minerals that are considered to have a role in a countries strategically important economic sectors. Countries assess a supply risk of each critical mineral.
How does the mine cycle go
Exploration, Evaluation, Construction and early production, Commercial production, closure
What is an ore deposit
A non concentration of minerals in an aggregate rock
What is gauge
Minerals in the ore deposit with no economic value
(Silicates)
what is byproduct
Subsidiary material worked from ore deposits in which other minerals are dominant
Whats tailing
Ore is processed at the mine site to almost ready to sell quality. The gauge (waste) is discarded in the vicinity of a plant and I called tailing
Whats ore grade
How much metal is concentrated in the ore
What is the equation for ore grade
Mass of extractable metal/ mass of rock or mineral mutinied by 100
Whats enrichment factor
Elem conc/ elem abundance in c.c
what is mineral resource
Minerals that are or may be extracted in the future due to their inherent properties.
What are minerals reserves
part if a mineral resource that has been, which has been full evaluated and is deemed commercially viable to work
Whats a compatible element
Is more readily accommodated in one or more mineral than in melt. Stays in solid phases longest during melting
Whats an incompatible element
Resides mainly in the melt phase and is excluded from the mineral. First element that goes into melt during melting
