Physical challenges key terms Flashcards
Venus fly trap, Sundew, Pitcher plant
Plants that adapted
Solution, solvent, solute
Kool-aid, water, sugar (solution - mix of solute particles dissolved into solvent, solvent - substance into which material can be dissolved, solute - particles which dissolve into solvent)
Diffusion
Movement of solute particles from region of high concentration to low concentration in order to establish an equilibrium (equal spacing between the molecules) - essential oil diffuser
Dialysis
Movement of solute particles across a semi permeable membrane from a region of high concentration (of solute particles) to a region of low concentration
Osmosis
Movement of solute particles (water) across a semi permeable membrane from an area of low concentration to area of high concentration
Tonicity
Relative amount of solute in a solution
Hypertonic
Solution has more solute particles per unit volume than a reference solution (IE - ocean fish example)
Isotonic
Solution has the same solute particles
Hypotonic
Solution has less solute particles (fresh water fish example)
