Physical and Skill-related components of fitness Flashcards
What can aerobic endurance also me referred to?
Cardiovascular endurance
Cardiorespiratory fitness
What is aerobic endurance?
The ability of the cardiorespiratory system to work efficiently.
What is muscular endurance?
The ability of the muscular system to work efficiently over a period of time, where the muscles can continue to contract.
What is flexibility?
Having an adequate range of movements in all joints of the body
What is speed?
The faster an athlete runs over a given distance, the greater the speed. Speed is measured by dividing the distance by the time taken. Speed is measured in m/s
What are the three types of speed?
Accelerate speed (sprints up to 30m) Pure speed (sprints up to 60m) Speed endurance (sprints with short recovery period in-between)
What is muscular strength?
The maximum force that can be generated by a muscle or muscle group. Can be measured in kg or N
What is body composition?
The ratio of fat mass to fat-free mass in the body.
What is agility?
The ability to quickly and precisely move or change direction without losing any balance or time
What is balance?
The ability to maintain centre of mass over a base of support
What is coordination?
The smooth flow of movement needed to perform a motor task efficiently and accurately
What is power?
The product of strength and speed expressed as the work done in a unit of time.
What is reaction time?
How long a sports performer takes to show their response after responding to the stimulus
What are the 5 skill-related components of fitness?
Agility Balance Coordination Power Reaction Time
What are the 6 physical components of fitness
Aerobic Endurance Muscular Endurance Flexibility Speed Muscular Strength Body Composition
