Security dilemma
Describes a situation in which one state increases its means of defence in order to achieve a higher degree of security, which, however, is interpreted by another state as an act of aggression and thus countered with security measures on its side, thus possibly leading to an armament spiral. e.g cold war

In International relations suggests states may secure their survival by preventing any one state from gaining enough military power to dominate all others
Breadbasket of an empire
area which provided most resources, typically food.
As civilisations and empire develop, breadbasket of an empire can extend to areas that produce the most vital and rich resources such as oil, gold, diamonds etc
