What happens in the absence of light?
A
- Photo receptors turned on
- Cells become depolarised and glutamate produced.
- This turns bipolar cells off in the centre and on in the off centre

What happens in the presence of light?
A
- Photon hits rhodopsin
- Retinal becomes cis from all trans which alters opsin and starts a casculation cascade
- Phosphodiesterase is activated which closes CGMP channels and stops glutamate production
- Bipolar turned on in centre and off in off centre
- Optic nerve activated
