photosynthesis practical Flashcards
what practical equipment an be used to measure rate of photosynthesis
photosynthometer
what are the different parts of a photosynthometer set up and reasons for them
thermometer- to monitor temp of water
beaker of water- heat filter control temperature, insulates tube of sample plant
sodium hydrogencarbonate- source of co2
light source- for photosynthesis, control intensisty and distance from plant
syringe- move bubble along scale so you cn measure it
graduated scale- measure size of bubble = volume of oxygen= rate of photosynthesis
capillary tube- narrow = long bubble that is measureable
why can the rate of production of bubble be used for measuring rate of photosynthesis
-proportional to the rate of photosynthesis
-oxygen produced in light dependent reaction/ photolysis
the cells in the aquatic plant will also be carrying out respiration, will this afect the result of the rate of photosynthesis
-yes respiration uses oxygen= fewer bubbles
why is it important to use the same piece of aquatic plant throughout the experiment
same concentration of chlorophyll/ same number of leaves/ same surface area
