Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration and Cell Growth Cycle Flashcards
Which type of energy transformation occurs in photosynthesis?
Light energy is transformed into chemical energy.
What organelles does respiration take place in?
Begins in the cytoplasm and ends in the mitochondria.
What are the reactants & products of Cellular Respiration? (Equation & Words)
C6H12O6 + 6O2 –> 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
Glucose + Oxygen -> Chemical Reaction -> Carbon Dioxide + Water + Energy.
What are the reactants & products of Photosynthesis? (Equation & Words)
CO2 + H2O –> C6H12O6 + O2
Carbon Dioxide + Water -> Sun’s Energy & Chlorophyll -> Glucose + Oxygen.
What is Aerobic cellular respiration?
The process when glucose is turned into ATP energy. Krebs Cycle: Helps make energy. Electron Transport Chain. (Oxygen based)
What gases cycle through in Cellular Respiration and Photosynthesis?
Oxygen & Carbon Dioxide. (Cycling depends on cycle)
Krebs Cycle
It is the main source of energy for cells and an important part of aerobic respiration. (Oxidization)
Calvin Cycle
Light independent reactions. Carbon (Fixed Carbon) turns into glucose.
What are the steps in Binary Fission?
1: DNA Replication 2. Chromosome Segregation. 3. Separation. 4. Two new daughter cells.
What are the steps in Cell growth and Divison?
1: Interphase, 2: Prophase, 3: Metaphase, 4: Anaphase, 5: Telophase, 6: Cytokinesis.
What is interphase?
The period before division where the cell grows copies DNA and prepares to divide. 90% time spent in this phase.
What is prophase?
Chromatin forms into chromosomes. Spindle fibers form, the nuclear membrane breaks down.
What is metaphase?
Chromosomes line up in the center. Chromosomes attach to spindle fibers at the centromere.
What is anaphase?
Centromeres split, chromatin separate, and move to opposite ends of the cell.
What is telophase?
Chromosomes come unraveled and a new nuclear membrane forms around the region of the new chromosomes.
