Photosynthesis and Respiration Validation Test Flashcards
Anaerobic Respiration
Cytoplasm No oxygen Reactant- glucose Product Plant- ethanol and co2 4ATP per molecule Product Animal- Lactic acid Net production of ATP- 2ATP
Aerobic Respiration
Mitochondria Requires Oxygen O2+Glucose Products Animal and Plant- co2 + h2o ATP per molecule and 36 ATP Net Production- 36-38ATP
Aerobic Equation
6O2+C6H12O6=6CO2+6H2O + 36-38 ATP
Anaerobic Equation (Plant)
C6H12O6= CO2 + Ethanol + 2 ATP
Anaerobic Equation (Animal)
C6H12O6= lactic acid + 2 ATP
Photosynthesis Equations
12H2O + 6CO2 = C6H12O6 + 6O2 + 6H2O
Water + Carbon Dioxide light/chlorophyll = Glucose + Oxygen
Photosynthesis
Process by which plants use light energy to breakdown water and carbon dioxide and build them into oxygen, glucose and water molecules
Light Dependent Stage
- Absorbed by pigments in thylakoids, chlorophylls absorb blue and red light and reflect green.
- Electrons become energised.
- split water molecules into hydrogen ions and oxygen
- atp molecules are formed
Light independent stage
- occurs in stroma of chloroplast
- glucose molecules are produced from co2
- requires a supply of co2, hydrogen ions and ATP
- the ATP is produced during light independent stage
Chloroplast
- site of photosynthesis
- have outer and inner membrane
- stroma is enclosed in inner membrane
- suspended in the stroma is thylakoid membranes
- they are flat and sac like structures
ATP- Adenosine Triphosphate, Structure
Adenine- rectangle (nitrogenous base)
Ribose- Pentagon (carbon sugar)
Phosphate- Circles
Releasing energy
Stores energy in terminal end phosphate
When bond is broken atp synthase energy is released
Adp is formed
Photosynthesis respiration and ATP
Required to create glucose
Used to breakdown glucose in respiration
Factors affecting photosynthesis
Light intensity
Carbon dioxide
