Photosynthesis and Respiration Flashcards
What is the function of ATP Synthase
Catalysed the reaction between ADP and Pi.
What is photoionisation?
When light energy hits the chlorophyll causing the electrons to become excited and leave the chloroplast
What is the energy from electrons used for in the LDR
It is used to split water and and reduce NADP and ADP
Why are protons required in the LDR?
Protons needed to pass through the ATP synthase channel changing the structure of the enzyme so it can catalyse ADP +Pi and maintain the concentration gradient.
What products of photolysis are used in the LDR?
Protons and electrons O2 is waste product
What is chemiosmosis
Movement of ions over a partially permeable membrane e.g. H+ ions through ATP synthase
What are the products of the LDR
NADPH and ATP AND O2
What enzyme catalyses the reaction between RuBP and CO2?
Rubisco
What is produced when RuBP and CO2 React?
GP (glycerate 3 phosphate)
What is reduced GP to TP?
2 molecules of NADPH and ATP are used
What is triode phosphate converted?
Regenerate RuBP using ATP from LDR. And converted to Useful organic compounds
What is a limiting factor?
A requirement for photosynthesis that hinders or slows the rate of photosynthesis eg light
How does light intensity can affect photosynthesis?
Prevent the LDR and therefore slows the overall rate of photosynthesis
Light wavelength and photosynthesis?
Chloroplasts absorb certain wavelengths and different colours so some may not be absorbed slowing the ror
CO2 conc and photosynthesis?
CO2 needed for LDR without it no LDR and no LIR, so Slower ROR
