Photosynthesis Flashcards
What happens to the light not absorbed
Undergoes transmission and reflection
What is the absorption spectrum
It shows the range and extent to which light wavelengths are absorbed by a pigment
What is the action spectrum
It shows the rate of photosynthesis of a plant across a range of light wavelengths
What are carotenoids
Extend the range of wavelengths absorbed by photosynthesis
What happens when light energy is absorbed
The energy excites the electrons In the pigment molecules. These electrons are transferred through the electron transport chain which releases energy to generate ATP
What is G3P used for
Regenerate RuBP and synthesis of glucose
What is the glucose used for
Respiration
Synthesised into starch or cellulose
Passed to other biosynthetic processes
What can biosynthetic pathways lead to?
Formation of metabolites such as, DNA, protein and fat
