Photosynthesis Flashcards
1
Q
List requirements for photosynthesis.
A
- Light
- Carbon dioxide
- Water
- Chlorophyll
2
Q
How are leaves adapted for photosynthesis?
A
- Transparent upper surface layer: allows more light through
- Loosely packed spongy mesophyll layer: many gaps for air flow
- Lower epidermis pores(stomata): allows gas exchange
3
Q
Why do plants need water in their leaves?
A
- Cell needs to be turgid to be metabolically active
- Photosynthesis requires water to produce carbohydrates
4
Q
Why do products of photosynthesis need to be transported up & down the plant?
A
-Allow carbohydrates to reach growing leaves/shoots to aid growth
