Photosynthesis Flashcards
Site of the light-dependent reaction
Thylakoids of the chloroplast
Site of the light-independent reaction
Stroma of the chloroplast
What happens when the chlorophyll absorbs light energy?
Boosts the energy of electrons
These become excited and leave the chlorophyll and are taken up by an electron carrier
What happens to the lost energy from each stage of the transfer chain?
Used to combine Pi and ADP to make ATP
What is photolysis?
The replacement of electrons in the chlorophyll
Provided by splitting water molecules using light energy
The hydrogen released is used to reduce NADP
Why are ATP and NADPH required for the light independent reaction?
To reduce the activated GP to TP
NADP can then be re used in the light dependent reaction again
