Photosynthesis 3 Flashcards
Photosynthesis accuses in 2 stages. Name each stage and where they take place.
Light dependent reactions take place in the thylakoid membrane within the chloroplast.
Light independent reactions take place in
The two reactants of photosynthesis are Corbin dioxide and water. In which faction is each used?
Light dependan reactions = water
Light independent reactions = carbon dioxide
What is the purpose of the light dependent reaction?
To convert solar energy into chemical energy in the form of NADP and ATP
What happens to the high energy electron that are produced in photosystem 1?
Used to help make help power different things, like the hydrogen pump
What is the name of the enzyme in the thylakoid membrane that is used to produce ATP?
ATP synthase
Where does the Calvin cycle take place?
In the stroma of chloroplasts
Explain the three factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis.
Light intensity- increases the ate of photosynthesis. Without, photosynthesis won’t happen
Water-less water means the slower the rate of photosynthesis
Temperature- too hot or too cold temperatures can slow down photosynthesis
What powers the rotation of the ATP synthase molecule?
The difference in the concentration of H+ on opposite sides of e inner mitochondrial membrane
What splits off mid cycle in the carbon cycle to produce sugar molecules
2-3 carbon molecules
What is the overall purpose of the Calvin cycle?
To keep the plant alive and provide us with oxygen
