Photosynthesis Flashcards
What do green plants make food using?
They use carbon dioxide, water and light energy from the sun. This process is called photosynthesis
Plants are considered ___.. and why?
They are considered autotrophs since they make their own food. Other autotrophs include - algee and certain bacteria.
How is it turned into glucose and oxygen?
The energy from the sunlight is trapped by a green pigment called chlorophyll, found in the chloroplast present in the green leaves. This light energy is used to turn the raw materials carbon dioxide and water into the products which are glucose and oxygen.
What is glucose?
Glucose is a simple sugar which is used to provide energy for the plant and to make other substances such as starch and sucrose substances for later use.
What is oxygen?
Oxygen is released into the air through the small pause in the leaves called stomata.
What’s the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + water + light energy ————–> glucose + oxy.
