Functions of the structures in cells Flashcards
What’s the functions of the Cell Membrane?
This is a semi-permeable structure which controls what enters and exits the cell. It also separates the cell from the outside environment.
What’s the functions of the Nucleus?
This is the control centre of the cell. It controls all the activities performed by the cell, it contains genetic material for process of reproduction. It is called chromosomes, consisting of DNA.
What’s the functions of the Vacuole?
This structure stores water, foods, nutrients or waste needed or produced.
What’s the functions of the Cytoplasm?
This is a jelly-like material which allows various reactions to occur in the cell.
What’s the functions of the Ribosomes?
It’s responsible for the production of proteins, which is needed for growth and repair of the cells
What’s the functions of the Mitochondrion?
This is where the process of respiration takes place(energy is stored). It is referred to as the “powerhouse of the cell”
What’s the functions of the Cell wall?
This provides the cell with protection and support, it’s normally made up of cellulose fibers
What’s the functions of the Chloroplast?
This is where the process of photosynthesis takes place. It has a green pigment called chlorophyll.
What’s the function of the Starch Grain?
These structures store starch which is needed by the plant for energy at later times.
