photosynthesis Flashcards
what is the standard form for carbon dioxide?
Co2
what is the standard form for water?
h2o
what is inside chloroplasts?
chlorophyll
what does chlorophyll do?
absorb sunlight (energy)
what makes glucose and oxygen?
plants use energy from the sun to change water and carbon dioxide into glucose and oxygen
where does the plant get Minareals and water from?
through the soil
how does the plant absorb carbon dioxide?
tiny pores called somata absorb carbon dioxide (co2) through air
what does ADP stand for
adenosine diphosphate, 2
what does ATP stand for
adenosine Tri phosphate - 3
what kind of reaction is the first stage called in photosynthesis?
light dependent reaction
what is the second stage in photosynthesis called?
Calvin cycle
what is the Calvin cycle?
series of enzyme controlled reactions which does not require light, to reduce carbon dioxide in the air. carbon also gets added into the air (from the carbon dioxide) and the final product of the cycle is glucose
what substances are used in both stage 1 and stage 2
ATP and chloroplasts
where does stage 1 and stage 2 occor?
stage 1: membranes of chloroplasts
stage 2: storms of the chloroplasts
- both at the core (reaction centre)
how does starch relate to photosynthesis
plants can turn the glucose produced in photosynthesis into starch for storage, and turn it back into glucose when needed respiration
