Photosynthesis Flashcards
what is the purpose of the xylem tubes?
To carry water and nutrients to the leaf
What is the purpose of the phloem tubes?
To carry glucose to other parts of the plant
What is the function of the stomata?
Many are found at the bottom of the leaf to control the intake of carbon dioxide and the releasing off oxygen
Name 3 exterior leaf adaptations
Thin, Lange surface area, Waxy layer, Veins
What is the scientific equation for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide and water to oxygen and glucose
What is fertiliser?
Fertiliser is food for plants that contain minerals which is important when minerals are not provided by natural decomposition
What are the 4 plant minerals a plant needs and their benefits?
Magnesium-For making chlorophyll
Nitrogen-For making protein
Potassium-For growth
Phosphorus-For energy transfer
Where and how does photosynthesis take place?
Leaf, palisade mesophyll, chloroplast, chlorophyll which absorbs sunlight
