Photosynthesis Flashcards
Is photosynthesis an endothermic or exothermic reaction?
Endothermic
Why is photosynthesis an endothermic reaction?
Light energy is being transferred from the environment to the chloroplasts
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + Water → Glucose + Oxygen
What are the reactants in photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + Water
What are the products in photosynthesis?
Glucose + Oxygen
What is the symbol equation for photosynthesis?
CO2 + H2O → C6H12O6 + O2
What is the source of energy in photosynthesis?
Light
What is light absorbed by for photosynthesis
The chlorophyll
Name the four limitng factors which affect the rate of photosynthesis
- Light intensity
- Temperature
- Concentration of Carbon Dioxide
- Amount of chlorophyll
What is a limiting factor?
A factore that when in shortage, slows down the rate of photosynthesis
How can you tell that a factor is the limiting factor?
As the factor increases the rate of photosynthesis increases
How can you tell when a factor is no longer the limitng factor?
As the factor continues to increase and become abundant the rate of photosynthesis remains constant- so something elese is now the limiting factor
Why do farmers want to increase the rate of photosynthesis of their plants?
To increase their crop yield
How do farmers increase their crop yield through photosynthesis?
They add light, heat and extra carbon dioxide to their greenhouses
these are all factors which affect the rate of photosynthesis
What problems do farmers face while trying to increase their crop yield?
It is expensive to add light, heat and extra CO2 to their greenhouses
