Photosynthesis Flashcards
Light Dependent Reaction
splits water molecules using sunlight, releases oxygen, hydrogen used to make ATP
Calvin Cycle
uses CO2 to make glucose using enzymes/ATP, 6CO2 makes 1 glucose, ATP is then used up which makes ADP and goes to light dependent cycle.
Visible Light
type of radiation and light that plants use
Pigments
traps different wavelengths of light
Cellular Respiration
process cells do to make energy from food to make ATP
Where does Cellular Respiration happen?
cytoplasm and mitochondria
Where does ATP come from?
breaking glucose
What do cells use ATP for?
- build complex molecules
- move things around cell
- active transport in nerve cells
- secrete molecules
- contract and relax muscles
What is ATP made of?
adenine, 5-carbon sugar (ribose), and three phosphate groups (bond between phosphate has energy)
How does the cell get energy from the ATP?
when bond is broken, energy is released, and ADP is formed. energy from foods adds phosphate group, making ATP again
ATP working acronym
Broken bonds
Absorb energy, we
Release energy through the
Formation of bonds
What is needed for Photosynthesis?
Chloroplast
Sunlight
Leaf Pigments
Water
CO2
Where does Photosynthesis take place?
occurs in chloroplast: made of thylakoid and stroma
Electromagnetic Spectrum
range of wavelengths to which radiation extends. Plants use visible spectrum part
Photosynthesis Equation
CO2 + H2O with enzymes and solar energy = C6H12O6 + O2
