Cellular Respiration Flashcards
Cellular Respiration Equation
C6H12O6 makes H2O + CO2 + 2-38ATP
Anaerobic oxygen
does not use oxygen
Aerobic oxygen
uses oxygen
Glycolysis Anaerobic Pathway
uses glucose to make pyruvate, fermentation and makes 2 ATP
Lactic Acid Fermentation Pathway
uses pyruvate after going through glycolysis and makes lactic acid. Only makes 2 ATP from glycolysis
Alcoholic Fermentation Pathway
uses pyruvate after going through glycolysis and makes CO2 and ethyl alcohol (ethanol). Only makes 2 ATP from glycolysis
What organisms go through glycolysis?
all organisms
does not use oxygen and is very fast
glycolysis
Where does aerobic respiration happen?
mitochondria
Mitochondria
has inner and outer membrane and generates reactions that make ATP by creating concentration gradients and using protein pumps
Aerobic Respiration process
after glycolysis in mitochondria and makes 30+ ATP
Krebs Cycle
uses pyruvate to make 2 ATP and 6CO2, carbon dioxide is then breathed out
Electron Transport Chain
high energy electrons from glucose used to create concentration gradient in mitochondria that produces 30-34 ATP and 6H2O
Electron Transport Chain powered by
oxygen
High energy electrons
come from energy molecules which donates hydrogen ions to create concentration gradient
