Photosynthesis Flashcards
Why are plants green?
The chlorophyll A has green pigment because it is on the opposite side of the color wheel spectrum as violet/blue and orange/red wavelengths. It allows it to aborb the most energy.
What is the equation of photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 6H2O —> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Where does photosynthesis take place in eukaryotes?
In the chloroplast
How did the chloroplast evolve?
Through endosymbiotic bacterium. it was engulfed by another cell.
What is the evidence of endosymbiotic bacterium evolution?
The chloroplast contains:
- 2 layers of phospholipids
- 70s ribosomes
- circular, naked DNA
Discribe the membrane of the chloroplast.
It has 2 outer membrane layers.
What compound necessary for photosynthesis is contained in the thylakoids?
Chlorophyll
