photosynthesis Flashcards
Photosynthesis:
“Synthesis from light”
a process consisting of many reactions (2 PATHWAYS)
stomata
CO2 enters through it, water and O2 exit through it from under the leaves in pors
photosynthesis in chemical
6CO2+ H2O–> O2+ C6H12O6+ H2O
Photosynthesis is a process consisting of many reactions, two main pathways:
Light reactions: Convert light energy to chemical energy as ATP and NADPH.
IN THYLAKOID MEMBRANE
Light-independent reactions: Use ATP and NADPH (from the light reactions) plus CO2 to produce carbohydrates – does not use light directly
IN STROMA
light is called PHOTONS
photosynthetic organisms absorb photons at specific wavelengths and harvest energy for biological processes.
When a photon is absorbed, molecule becomes more chemically reactive(then the light reactions start)
photosynthesis absorb and reflect..
photosynthesis, reflects green light and absorbs red and blue light most strongly
photosynthesis takes place in chloroplasts, mainly in thylakoid
